Kalpa De Silva
Consultant interventional cardiologist
Dr Kalpa De Silva has been a consultant interventional cardiologist at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust since 2020. Previously he was a consultant interventional cardiologist at the Bristol Heart Institute, University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust. He specialises in the management of coronary artery disease, looking after patients with chest pain, angina and those who have suffered heart attacks.
Education and training
Kalpa studied medicine at St Bartholomew's and The Royal London Medical school. In 2014 he was awarded a PhD from King's College London for his research in coronary physiology. His clinical training in general and interventional cardiology were at King's College and St Thomas' Hospital. He also completed an international fellowship in complex coronary intervention at the Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney, Australia.
Kalpa is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and American College of Cardiology.
Kalpa's research interests revolve around the use of coronary physiology to guide patient management, ensuring a science-based emphasis on the treatment of coronary disease and chest pain syndromes.
His interests range from descriptive translational research to large-scale clinical research trials within a wide variety of clinical settings.
Kalpa is an honorary senior lecturer at King's College London.
