Biography
Louis McArdle graduated from Glasgow University in 1987. He has worked at Guy's Dental Hospital since 1996 and he has been a consultant oral surgeon at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust since 2008.
In 1994 he become one of the first dentists in the UK to gain a Master's degree in dental implantology. He is one of the foremost authorities on all aspects of third molar surgery and has lectured both nationally and internationally. His PhD research has contributed evidence in support for prophylactic third molar removal and he has published extensively on this subject. His research continues to focus on novel third molar epidemiology and management.
In 2002 he developed and introduced the specialist oral surgery training programme at King's College London and Guy's and St Thomas' and is educational supervisor for specialist oral surgery trainees.
He was president of the British Association of Oral Surgeons between 2008 and 2010. He is the national advisor for oral surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and is an examiner for the FDS(OS)RCS(Eng).
