Biography
Rhoda Akilapa is a consultant in clinical genetics at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. She specialises in rare diseases, with particular expertise in skeletal dysplasias and connective tissue disorders.
Rhoda leads specialist clinics at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital, including the achondroplasia, skeletal dysplasia, and cleidocranial dysplasia services. She also runs a diagnostic connective tissue disorders clinic at Guy’s Hospital, supporting both children and adults with conditions such as Marfan syndrome, vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (vEDS), Loeys-Dietz syndrome, and related disorders.
In addition to her specialist work, Rhoda sees patients of all ages in her general genetics clinic, including those requiring prenatal counselling and families affected by the loss of a child or relative from a suspected genetic disorder.
She is an active member of the genetics community and serves on the Council of the Skeletal Dysplasia Group (SDG). Rhoda is also a member of the International Skeletal Dysplasia Society (ISDS) and VASCERN, the European Reference Network focused on rare vascular diseases and cardiovascular genetic conditions.
