As local hospitals and the provider of community services in Lambeth and Southwark, we are keen to tell you more about what we do and how you can get involved in our work. There is much to celebrate and be proud of – from our services and exceptional staff to the amazing research and innovation which is allowing us to deliver new and better treatments.

Issue 23 – the GiST – August 2017

Issue 23 of the GiST, find out why Dianne Roberts is donating £1.8 million to fund research into bladder cancer in memory of her husband. We hear from Chris Yabro, who tells us what it's like to be a young person living with Type 1 diabetes and our lead governor, Devon Allison explains why the Council of Governors matters.

Issue 22 – the GiST – May 2017

Issue 22 of the GiST includes a feature on how patients Bianca and India are helping us to recruit the best possible staff. You can also find out more about three recent royal visits – HRH the Duke of Cambridge visited St Thomas' Hospital to thank staff following the Westminster terrorist attack, HRH the Duchess of Cambridge officially opened a new 'home away from home' for parents of Evelina London Children's Hospital patients, and HRH the Prince of Wales met staff who are improving care for older people.

Issue 21 – the GiST – February 2017

Issue 21 of the GiST includes an article about housekeeper Michael Ampadu who won a Trust Award after being nominated by colleagues from the dental team. You can find out what happened when we spent 24 hours behind the scenes with the site nurse practitioners, and learn about a pioneering new lung surgery procedure that gave Joy Cooper-Barclay a lifeline.

Issue 20 – the GiST – November 2016

Issue 20 of the GiST features a story about the new Cancer Centre at Guy's, and how it was designed with the help of cancer survivor Diana Crawshaw and a team of patients with a mission to change cancer care. We also hear how two local initiatives are widening access to employment.

Issue 19 – the GiST – August 2016

Issue 19 of the GiST features a piece on why Syeda Mannan is looking forward to a bright future after a life-changing two week period. We also get some tips about how older people can reduce their risk of falls and hear from Dr Terry Gibson about what he learned during his time volunteering at Connaught Hospital in Sierra Leone.

Issue 18 – the GiST – May 2016

Issue 18 of the GiST includes a story about the baby girl who was named Evelina after the hospital that saved her life. Read about the work of specialist midwife Geraldine Joyce who helps to improve the lives of vulnerable pregnant women, and learn more about the first successful blood transfusion, which took place at Guy's Hospital in 1825.

Issue 17 - the GiST - January 2016

Issue 17 of the GiST the team talk to Jamie Williams, who thought he would lose his hand after an accident with a saw last summer. Thanks to the hard work of his surgeon and our hand therapy team, he's now got almost all his strength and movement back.

Issue 16 – the GiST – November 2015

Issue 16 of the GiST features a celebration of the 10th birthday of Evelina London Children's Hospital. We talk to Maya Jotwani who suffered a stroke when she was just 16 years old and we find out how changes in our Emergency Department (A&E) at St Thomas' Hospital are already benefitting patients.

Issue 15 – the GiST – August 2015

Issue 15 of the GiST includes an interview with bricklayer Daniel Jerman about the lifeline he was given by the headache service at St Thomas', and find out why space satellite engineer Michael Loweth is taking part in the groundbreaking 100,000 Genomes Project.

Issue 14 – the GiST – May 2015

Issue 14 pf the GiST features an interview with Radio 1's DJ Claira Hermet about why she is no longer living in fear of breast cancer. We hear how our stop smoking service helped marathon runner Zoe Robson to kick the habit, and in advance of Volunteers' Week in June, we speak to two people who volunteer at the Trust for very different reasons.
