Hyperthermia and radiotherapy seminar

On behalf of the ThermoRad wIRA study team, we are pleased to invite you to a seminar and related patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) activities focused on hyperthermia and its use alongside palliative radiotherapy.

Hyperthermia, sometimes known as heat treatment, is an established treatment approach in parts of Europe when used with radiotherapy. Guy's and St Thomas' is the first centre in the UK to offer this technology through the ThermoRad wIRA study, which aims to make tumours more sensitive to radiotherapy. At present, hyperthermia is only available to patients enrolled in the study.

The free seminar is open to patients, family members, carers and anyone interested in cancer research. No scientific or medical background is required.

The session will include:

• talks from Anthony Kong, chief investigator and clinical oncologist, and members of the research and treatment teams
• a video demonstration of the technology
• a panel question-and-answer session

The seminar will take place at Guy's Hospital or online via Microsoft Teams.

Following the seminar, you can apply to attend a small group discussion to share ideas, help shape future research and raise awareness of hyperthermia treatment.

• Location: Guy's Hospital (in-person only)

Places are limited to 12 participants.

Participants will be selected from the expressions of interest received. We are keen to include a diverse range of experiences and viewpoints to support a rich and meaningful discussion.
