Barbara's story…seeing the 'me' in dementia

Friday 21 September 2012

A quarter of patients in UK hospitals have dementia, and the number is growing. We need to do more for these patients, which is why we are embarking on a new campaign to raise awareness of dementia for staff in our hospitals and working in the community.

To support this, every member of staff will attend an innovative training session over the next few months. As part of this training, staff will watch Barbara’s story – a powerful film about a woman with dementia, and her experiences during a hospital visit.

All staff are expected to have a good understanding of the issues faced by dementia patients so that they can all provide exceptional care. It doesn’t matter whether or not they work with patients directly, the reality is that they will come across a patient with dementia just by walking down the corridor.

Barbara’s story is being launched today, Friday 21 September.
