We are redeveloping the Guy's and St Thomas' website for the first time in nearly 10 years.
Our aim is to deliver a new 'patient-first' website – using data and research to provide information which patients want, which is easy to find and easy to understand.
Patients, the public and local stakeholders will have lots of opportunities to contribute to the project through surveys, digital focus groups and online testing.
Where we are
The first major milestone was to find out who our users are, what they are coming to our site to achieve, what they like about the site and what problems they faced (discovery phase).
Overall, impressions of the website were positive. Users had high levels of confidence in the Trust and a majority would recommend the current site to friends and family. However, there were criticisms. The design of the site was seen as outdated and in need of a refresh. Navigation was difficult and search did not perform well.
In the next phase we will use the findings from discovery to help develop the structure, navigation and design of the new site – this is called the alpha phase.
This will run from April to July and as part of our commitment to involve users in the project, we will be asking you to complete some short surveys.
Have your say – complete our surveys
Please help us by taking part in the following activities. Each survey will be open for 2 weeks. Your feedback will help us improve the information and online services that we provide.
Card sorting survey
The card sorting survey will help us understand how you would expect to see content grouped on the website and what these groups should be called.
The card sorting activity is now closed.
Tree test surveys
Large websites are normally organised into a hierarchy (a 'tree’) of topics and subtopics. The tree test surveys will help us see how well you can find items on our website.
- Tree test 1
Tree test exercise 1 is now closed.
- Tree test 2
Tree test exercise 2 is now closed.
- Tree test 3
Tree test exercise 3 is now closed.
Designing our new website – the new concept
Following feedback from patients, the public and staff, we've now chosen a design concept for the Trust's new website.
The design concept selected is option B.
Website option B
Comments on the design
Comments on option B included
"Option B as the darker blue ribbon looks more ‘authoritative’ or even regal!"
"Option B is the stronger and more modern, fresher option"
"I prefer option B. The design looks better in mobile than option A."
"I prefer option B as it feels warmer and more friendly"
Thank you to everyone who commented on the 2 shortlisted designs.
We will now start working with our web development agency to roll out the approach across further pages on our new website.
The shortlisted design concepts – July 2021
We narrowed down our approach to 2 viable design concepts. We applied the concepts to the new home page only to show how it would look on both desktop and mobile devices.
Website option A
The project started in August. However, in January 2021 we reluctantly decided to put the project on hold due to the increased pressure the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic was placing on the Trust.
Work restarted in April 2021 and we expect the project to take a further 9 to 10 months to complete.
If you have any questions about the survey or our development plans, please email email@example.com.
