Cissy Adamou, Evelina London patient, wins Pride of Britain awards

A courageous Evelina London Children’s Hospital patient has been named the Teenager of Courage at the Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards.

Cissy Adamou,15, who was born with a serious heart condition and has had a heart and kidney transplant, was honoured at the star-studded ceremony for her inspirational blog and fundraising efforts.

An audience of millions saw Britain's Got Talent judges Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon present Cissy with her award when the Pride of Britain Awards were screened on ITV on Tuesday 7 October.

Cissy says: “Everyone has courage, they just need to find it within themselves. It feels so amazing to win this award. It was nerve-wracking being up on stage but Carol, Amanda and Alesha really looked after me. It was so exciting."

Despite her health problems, including tumours on her brain and spine, Cissy still finds time to write a blog about her experiences and fundraise for Evelina London Children’s Hospital and other charities.

Alesha Dixon said on the night: “She is such an amazing person with a beautiful spirit and it just goes to show that it doesn't matter what you face in life, you can get through it. She is so inspiring."

The Pride of Britain Awards ceremony was presented by Carol Vorderman and attended by Prime Minster David Cameron as well as celebrities including Russell Brand, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Jamie Oliver and Great British Bake Off stars Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry.
