Evelina London patients celebrate putting their children's hospital on the map

Monday 1 July marks the first day of a new identity for our children's hospital.

Patients, their families and staff came together to help choose the name which reflects Evelina London’s location at the heart of the capital - its glass roof is a familiar sight to commuters arriving at Waterloo station and it is just minutes away from some of London’s most iconic buildings including Big Ben, the London Eye and Lambeth Palace.

The eye-catching logo was created with the help from our young patients who took part in a finger painting session - and some of their fingerprints were used to make up the logo.

Young patients will join hospital staff on 1 July to celebrate the official unveiling of the new Evelina London name and logo. They will join Lord Stanley Fink, President of Evelina London, and his wife Lady Barbara Fink who have been tireless supporters of the hospital, including raising and incredible £600,000 at a fundraising gala in December.

Sarah O’Donovan, mother to three-year old Alexander, said: “The new name is a great idea. It will at last put this amazing institution on the map. When we were first told our son was being transferred to PICU at Evelina we knew nothing about it, not even where it was.

“Our world fell apart when our son Alexander was diagnosed with a heart condition the day after he was born. He needed emergency surgery and the staff not only saved his life but all our lives as they cared for the entire family and continue to do so.”

Dr Grenville Fox, consultant neonatologist and joint clinical director of Evelina, said: “We are proud to have taken this opportunity to incorporate London into our name which reflects our important role in treating children from not only our local community in south London but also south east England and further afield.

“Our patients not only helped choose our new name but also created our logo - this is their hospital.”
