The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has rated the Evelina London children's emergency department 'outstanding', following an inspection undertaken in March 2026.
The children's emergency department is located with the adults' emergency department at St Thomas' Hospital. The urgent and emergency services at St Thomas' Hospital, including children's services, maintained their 'outstanding' rating from the previous inspection. The urgent treatment centre at Guy's Hospital, which provides walk-in treatments for adults and children over the age of one, has maintained its 'good' rating.
Gubby Ayida, chief executive of Evelina London, said: "This excellent achievement is a testament to the commitment, compassion and expertise our colleagues bring to work every day.
"One of the details I was pleased to see highlighted by the inspectors was how we provide people with clear information in ways they understand, and this includes when speaking with children.
"We know how important it is to create environments where children feel safe and understood, and where families are given the support they need at what can often be a stressful and frightening time.
“We are proud of these excellent results, which inspire us to continue to improve so we can deliver the best care possible, not just in our emergency department but across all of our children’s services.”
The CQC is the independent health regulator in England whose role it is to ensure that hospitals and other care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate and high-quality care. It continuously monitors services and conducts inspections. It then publishes these findings alongside formal quality ratings (Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement, or Inadequate) so the public can make informed choices.
