Education and development opportunities for Trust staff were highlighted at the launch of a lifelong learning programme last month month.

The Inspire your Future events held at St Thomas’ and Guy’s hospitals marked the start of a Trustwide commitment to ongoing education, and saw Trust Chairman Hugh Taylor sign a learning agreement with staff side representative Dino Williams.

Jane Collier, Unison Branch Education Officer, says: “It’s great that management has made a commitment to nurture ongoing learning.”

To help staff get involved, volunteer learning reps have been recruited to work with both managers and individual members of staff to identify learning needs.

“We made sure the programme included staff who in the past may not have had access to learning opportunities,” says Jane.

“The learning reps will help individuals find out how to make the most of what is on offer at the Trust.”

Learning reps will receive five weeks’ training to help them offer staff the best opportunities to develop their skills.

Speaking at the St Thomas’ launch event, MP Kate Hoey said: “People are the biggest asset of the NHS. You are the NHS and you are what makes the NHS what it is.”
