NHS Staff Survey results show an engaged and motivated workforce

Guy’s and St Thomas’ achieved the highest engagement score of all ‘combined acute and community trusts’ according to the national NHS Staff Survey results published today, Tuesday 6 March 2018.
The Trust achieved a score of 3.99 (on a scale of 1-5) for staff engagement, compared to a national average of 3.78, for ‘combined acute and community trusts’. This score was also higher than all trusts in the ‘acute trusts’ and ‘community trusts’ groups.
More than 5,300 staff from across the Trust completed the Staff Survey in autumn 2017.
A total of 88% of staff who responded are happy with the standard of care we provide, compared to the national average of 69%, and 78% of staff would recommend the Trust as a place to work, compared to the average of 59%.
Whilst the majority of our results were above average, we saw a decrease in our scores in number of categories and there are several key areas which we need to improve in.

This is good news for both our staff and our patients as research indicates that happy and engaged staff provide better patient care. It is also testament to the dedication and commitment of our staff in making the Trust a great place to work.”
Julie Screaton, Director of Workforce and Organisational Development, says: “These results are a barometer for the health of our organisation and it is very positive to hear that our staff would recommend Guy’s and St Thomas’ so highly. The results give us a valuable insight into staff views on working for the Trust and importantly, an understanding of the areas where we need to focus our efforts and improve on. We will be working closely with the directorates to analyse the results and assist in addressing areas of improvement at a local and Trust-wide level.”
