Gurdip Azad
Consultant clinical oncologist in prostate radiotherapy
Biography
Dr Gurdip Azad is a consultant clinical oncologist who specialises in the treatment of prostate cancer radiotherapy.
Gurdip Azad completed specialist clinical oncology training in London. She did rotations in Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, North Middlesex Hospital, the Royal Free Hospital, University College London Hospital and the Royal Marsden Hospital before being appointed as a consultant at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in 2019.
Gurdip completed her research degree at King’s College London in 2019, and her thesis was published on the King’s College London research portal.
Alongside clinical practice, Gurdip is actively involved in research and education.
She was appointed:
- adjunct senior lecturer, School of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Sciences, King’s College London, 2024
- deputy training programme director for clinical oncology trainees in south east London, 2022
- honorary senior clinical lecturer, GKT School of Medical Education, King’s College London, 2020
Gurdip offers a range of the latest precision radiotherapy techniques, including:
- prostate cancer stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), MR-Linac based radiotherapy treatment, radiotherapy using SpaceOAR hydrogel, salvage radiotherapy, radiotherapy for oligometastatic and oligoprogressive disease
- prostate stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT / SABR) delivered in 5 sessions
- MR-linac adaptive radiotherapy, where treatment is adjusted in real time for accuracy
- VMAT / IMRT image-guided techniques for personalised, well-tolerated treatment

Research interests
Gurdip's current research interests include:
- stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT)
- advanced molecular and functional imaging to guide treatment selection
- management of recurrent and post-treatment prostate cancer
- artificial intelligence applications in predicting prostate cancer outcomes
Awards
Gurdip's academic work has been recognised internationally, including receiving the Alavi–Mandell Award for excellence in research in molecular imaging.
