How to refer a patient
Most referrals for echocardiography and exercise-testing come from within the hospital. These are triaged into urgent and non-urgent inpatient and outpatient studies and the timing and appropriateness of a request discussed by one of three triaging consultants.
Open access ECG, exercise-testing and 24-hour ECG and blood pressure monitoring are available for general practitioners. All open access tests should be requested using the referral forms:
The GP open access ECG service is now by appointment only, please do not send patients directly to cardiology. This will allow the cardiology department to monitor patient numbers and to support government guidance on social distancing. Please note we are not accepting any ECG appointments at Guy's Hospital.
Please request an ECG, by completing a new form which has been sent to all GP services.
Appointments for the other tests should be sent to the non-invasive test coordinators either via email gst-tr.Cardiology-Non-Invasive@nhs.net or to the cardiac offices.
Transoesophageal echocardiogram referrals
The indication and timing of trasnoesophageal echocardiograms should be discussed with one of the specialist consultants. Referrals by post or email are co-ordinated by Professor John Chambers.
