We accept referrals from health, education, and social care professionals for people living in:

  • Barking and Dagenham
  • Bexley
  • Bromley

If your patient is from another area, please refer to specialised services, communication matters.

If we're unable to support a patient we can let referrers and local services know how to meet the patient's needs.

Before making a referral, please read the guide to commissioning AAC services on the NHS England website (PDF).

You can also phone us if you need more information.

Please complete the assistive communication referral form and email or post it to us.

If you are referring a child, please visit the assistive communication referrals page on the Evelina London website.

Urgent referrals

We aim to see urgent referrals within 4 weeks of getting the referral.

We'll prioritise your referral as urgent if your patient:

  • has a rapidly progressing condition
  • has existing communication aid that is non-functional
  • is at risk of behavioural issues due to communication difficulties
  • is moving between settings and needs support to continue using their current communication aid
