Area of expertise: critical care medicine, severe respiratory failure, extra corporeal membrane oxygenation, anaesthesia.
Nicholas Barrett is a consultant in critical care medicine at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust who originally trained in both anaesthesia and intensive care medicine in Australia.
He leads the severe respiratory failure programme at Guy's and St Thomas', with particular interests in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and extracorporeal CO2 removal (ECCO2R).
He is a specialist adviser to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) on ECMO and a founder member of Euro ELSO
Management of intensive care patients with severe cardiac and respiratory failure, in particular those requiring extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation or extra-corporeal carbon dioxide therapies.
