Biography

Catherine Smith is adjunct professor of dermatology and therapeutics and consultant dermatologist at King's College London and St John's Institute of Dermatology, Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. 

She is lead clinician in our national specialised services for adults with severe psoriasis and eczema.

Research interests

Catherine's clinical and research interests focus on inflammatory skin disease and translational medicine, extending from biomarker discovery through to interventional studies (phase II-IV), and involving major national and international collaboration.

She also has an interest in guideline development and implementation in the UK and Europe, with the aim of bringing research findings into clinical practice. She chaired the UK's National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines on psoriasis and the British Association of Dermatologists guidelines on biologic therapy.
