William Newsholme began his career as a senior house officer at The Hospital for Tropical Diseases, undertaking the Diploma for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (awarded Duncan Prize, 1997).
William obtained a Master of Science degree in communicable diseases epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, before commencing the North Thames Infectious Diseases Specialist Registrar training programme. He obtained his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in Infectious Diseases and General (Internal) Medicine in 2005 and was a consultant in infectious diseases, infection control and general medicine at Hammersmith and Charing Cross Hospitals from 2006-2008. He has also obtained a Certificate in Medical Education from RCP/UCL (2005).
William joined as a consultant at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in October 2008. He runs a general infectious diseases clinic seeing adults with general infectious diseases problems but has a special interest in returning travellers/post tropical screening and infections causes by worms and protozoan parasites. He is also the infection control lead for the acute Trust.
