Since 2005 Geeta Hampson has been a consultant in chemical pathology and metabolic bone disease at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital.
She runs a large metabolic bone disease/osteoporosis service at Guy's and St Thomas'.
Geeta has a strong clinical and research interest in the diagnosis and management of metabolic bone diseases/osteoporosis and calcium/phosphate metabolism.
Her research interests started during her clinical training at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. Following an MRC-funded French exchange fellowship award, she continued her research in Paris in the renal physiology faculty in Paris, where she studied the molecular regulation of calcium and phosphate homeostasis in vitamin D deficiency.
During her time at Guy's and St Thomas' and King's College London, she has undertaken several clinical trials in osteoporosis.
Education and training
Geeta completed her undergraduate medical training at Manchester Medical School UK. Following this she trained in general medicine as a house officer and then took a senior house officer post in clinical pathology which included general training in clinical biochemistry, haematology, infection and histopathology.
During specialist training in clinical biochemistry, she extended her training in general endocrinology and diabetes mellitus. She carried out an MSC by research investigating the use of glycosylated proteins in the management of diabetes mellitus and later completed her MD thesis on the use of urinary growth hormone in the investigation of growth hormone disorders and short stature.
She completed her specialist training in clinical biochemistry at the University Hospital of Wales where she also developed a clinical and research interest in bone disorders. To pursue this further, she took up a MRC funded clinical research fellowship in the faculty of medicine of Xavier Bichat in Paris for two years where she trained into research methodologies, carried several basic research studies to gain insight into the regulation of bone/mineral metabolism.
She also trained clinically in the management of bone disorders and calcium/phosphate metabolism.
