Consultant hand and wrist surgeon

Biography

Sam Gidwani’s practice is exclusively focused on the treatment of disorders of the hand and wrist. He has worked as a consultant within the orthopaedic department at Guy’s Hospital since 2009, and also contributes to the regional hand trauma service at St Thomas’ Hospital. He was head of the orthopaedic department from September 2014 to September 2017, and is the orthopaedic lead for hand surgery. He has introduced a number of new techniques to the trust, most notably wrist replacement and thumb carpometacarpal (CMC) joint replacement.

Sam is a keen educator. He co-founded the yearly St Thomas’ cadaveric hand trauma course in 2011, and serves as a member of the Instructional Course Committee for the British Society for Surgery of the Hand. He travels to Nepal with the charity Working Hands on a yearly basis to treat patients with hand problems, chiefly related to leprosy.
