Biography

Muhammad Shamim Khan is a consultant and reader in urology at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and King's College London.

He leads the invasive and high risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer programme at Guy's and St Thomas'. The programme offers robotic and open radical cystectomy and all types of urinary diversions.

He carries out one of the highest numbers of robotic cystectomies in the country and has helped establish the robotic cystectomy programme both nationally and internationally. He is also a major contributor to the national and international database of the outcomes of robotic assisted radical cystectomy.

He is director of the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) office of education. He is involved in teaching and training nationally and internationally and has made an enormous contribution in promoting minimally invasive, reconstructive and transplant surgery in Asian and African subcontinents.

He is also co–chair of the south east and national simulation programme in urology (SIMULATE) and a member of the:

  • Specialist Advisory Committee (SAC) in urology
  • Joint Committee Higher Surgical Training (JCHST) simulation group
  • BAUS Executive Committee on Oncology and Standard Setting Panel Intercollegiate Board in Urology

He is an examiner in urology for the Royal College of Surgeons, the lead in undergraduate urology and co-lead for the surgical BSc at King's College London.
