Coronavirus: haematology update
In response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, please read our advice and information before sending any referrals.
We accept referrals from GPs and hospital specialists. Referrals from other hospitals must include a completed Inter-Provider Minimum Data Set or ensure that one is sent within 48 hours of referring a patient.
Our local catchment area includes Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham. We also have a large tertiary referral practice dealing with patients from the UK and other countries.
To refer a patient
All NHS GP referrals must be submitted using the NHS e-Referral service (formerly Choose and Book).
Referrals sent to the nhs.net mailbox or by post from GPs will not be processed.
- National number: 0345 608 8888
- NHS e-Referral service office at Guy's and St Thomas': 020 7188 0823/6
Tertiary referrals can be emailed to: firstname.lastname@example.org or sent by post to the address above. Referrals must be addressed to a named consultant.
Haematology consultants at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospital and King’s College hospital have agreed a joint adult haematology referral guide (PDF 378Kb) to support GPs in referring patients for haematology.
As well as the detailed guide, there’s a summary quick haematology referral guide (PDF 304Kb) for easy reference that summarises the key points. Please refer via e-RS and ensure all relevant results are sent with the referral.
In addition to using the referral guide, GPs can continue to access advice through existing channels, eg e-RS Advice & Guidance.
To refer as an emergency
If you wish to refer as an emergency, or if you are unsure whether a referral should be seen urgently, please contact the on call haematology registrar via hospital switchboard on 020 7188 7188.
