Your meals – an important part of your recovery

Patients and visitors

Patient eating their lunch on the wardEating well helps you to recover, so we want you to benefit as much as possible from the foods that you eat.

All of the meals you'll eat in our hospitals are made using fresh ingredients right here in our hospital kitchens.

Mealtimes vary from ward to ward but the approximate times are:

  • Breakfast: 8am-8.30am
  • Lunch: 12 noon-1pm
  • Dinner (Guy's): 5.30pm-6pm
  • Dinner (St Thomas'): 6pm-7pm

See the relevant ward page for exact meal times.

Meals are served three times a day and brought to your bedside.

We have a protected mealtime policy so you can eat without being interrupted. We ask visitors to leave during this period and arrange any tests you need outside this time. Please let us know if you need help at mealtimes.

You can choose your lunch and dinner from our menus each day.

Menus include hot, cold, vegetarian and soft diet options. If you have special dietary or religious needs, for example halal food, please let the ward housekeeper or a nurse know.

Additional drinks and snacks are also available - the ward staff will be able to give you more details.

Please note that due to risk of infection, we cannot reheat food that has been brought in for you.
