Assistive communication service
Making a referral
We accept referrals from health, education, and social care professionals for people living in:
- Barking and Dagenham
- Waltham Forest
If your patient is from another area, please refer to specialised services, communication matters.
If we're unable to support a patient we can let referrers and local services know how to meet the patient's needs.
Before making a referral, please read the guide to commissioning AAC services on the NHS England website.
You can also phone us if you need more information.
If you are referring a child, please visit the assistive communication referrals page on the Evelina London website.
We aim to see urgent referrals within 4 weeks of getting the referral.
We'll prioritise your referral as urgent if your patient:
- has a rapidly progressing condition
- has existing communication aid that is non-functional
- is at risk of behavioural issues due to communication difficulties
- is moving between settings and needs support to continue using their current communication aid
