Accessibility and support

We're committed to providing the best care we can to all our patients. We aim to make sure that all our locations, facilities and services are accessible and inclusive so you can experience care without additional barriers.

Please tell us about your needs as soon as you can before your appointment. Use the contact details on your appointment letter.

Support when you visit

Detailed access guides

We work with AccessAble to provide detailed visiting information for all our departments, wards and services. They include:

  • where a department is located and how to get there from the main entrance
  • where car parking spaces are located
  • whether there are lifts to access other floors
  • whether a hearing loop is fitted at reception
  • information about accessible toilets

Changing Places toilets

Changing Places toilets are specially equipped for people with learning and physical disabilities and their carers.

Changing Places toilets are located near the main entrances of Guy's, Harefield, Royal Brompton, and St Thomas’ hospitals.

Evelina London Children's Hospital also has accessible toilet facilities in the hospital.

Guide dogs

Guide dogs can accompany you during your visit.

Please call the number on your appointment letter to give your clinic staff as much notice as possible so they can accommodate this.

Sunflower lanyards

Sunflower lanyards are available to collect at the main receptions of our hospitals. Wearing one lets us know that you might need some extra help, understanding or more time.

Reasonable adjustments

Reasonable adjustments are changes we make, where possible, to remove barriers and make it easier for disabled people to access care. If you need support to access our services, please tell us.

If you have a learning disability, our easy read passport helps you record and share your needs. You can complete it before your visit and give it to staff involved in your care.

Induction loops

Induction loops are available in the main reception for people with hearing aids.

Language support

We can arrange a signer or translator to attend your appointment. Please contact your service with as much notice as possible.

Support for carers

We work in partnership with families and carers of patients, recognising and valuing the knowledge they bring. We treat them as expert partners at the heart of decision making for the person they care for.

All carers should have access to information to help them make positive choices in their caring role and improve their quality of life.
