Apollo is our name for an ambitious programme to introduce Epic (a leading electronic patient records system) across all our hospitals, our community services and at King's College Hospital.
Epic is due to launch in April 2023 and will transform the way that we work by replacing our historic IT systems and paper records. It will allow everyone involved in a patient's care to have access to all their records, whether in hospital, in a community clinic, or at home.
Our teams will have more time to spend with their patients and a complete overview of their care.
The better data capture will bring unique opportunities for research from basic science to patient-driven service improvements and greater efficiency.
Epic and other healthcare applications are used in some of the best hospitals around the world, as well as in the UK. It has been implemented in Cambridge University Hospitals, University College London Hospitals, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and Royal Devon and Exeter.
We're also going to be empowering our patients through the implementation of a new secure patient portal. This will allow our patients to gain access to their medical records, to book and manage their appointments, and engage actively and directly in the management of their health with their clinicians.
We are involving patients in the design, testing and communication of new technology for them, such as the patient portal.
Patients, family, carers and members can join the Apollo patient panel in 1 of 2 roles, a 'patient influencer' and a 'lead patient influencer'.
We are looking for people who:
- are interested in how digital technology can be used in healthcare
- are over the age of 16 (our workshops are not suitable for children)
You do not need to be confident using digital services.
Lead patient influencers
We are looking for people who:
- have some understanding and interest in the use of digital technology in healthcare
- have had a role as a patient governor or other patient leadership experience
- have experience in chairing meetings and leading groups
The average time commitment for both roles is half a day per month.

- have learning, sensory or mobility disabilities, and their carers
- use assistive technology
- have 1 or more long-term conditions
- have to travel for hospital care

- have English as an additional language
- come from a range of ethnic groups
- are LGBTQIA
