NHS Constitution

What is the NHS Constitution?

NHS Constitution logoThe Constitution sets out the values and principles of the NHS. It explains your rights and responsibilities as an NHS patient in England, including:

  • your right to choose which hospital you’re treated at
  • how long you should expect to wait for treatment
  • your right to complain when things go wrong.

It also tells you what you can do to support the NHS, to help make sure it runs efficiently and uses its resources responsibly.

You can watch some videos on YouTube explaining what the NHS Constitution and its values are about.
