Showing we care strategy

Showing we care logoOur values underpin our Showing we care strategy.

The strategy was developed by Chief Nurse Dame Eileen Sills in consultation with staff.

It translates our five values into ‘pledges’ to our patients about the quality of care they should expect at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and the mutual support and respect that we expect our staff to show for each other.

We asked our staff, patients and volunteers what our values mean to them – and turned their feedback into a short Showing we care film. 

Showing we care by Speaking up

At Guy’s and St Thomas’ the entire Board and its senior leaders are committed to building an open and honest culture where all staff feel able and confident to speak up.

Launched in June 2015, the 'Showing we care by speaking up’ campaign is the trust initiative to encourage all staff to speak up about concerns they may have about patient safety or the way the trust is run.

Speaking up is vitally important: it will help us to keep improving our services for all patients and the working environment for our staff.

A number of mechanisms have been implemented to support staff to speak up, these are outlined in the Raising a matter of concern (whistleblowing) policy and procedures (PDF 173Kb).

Following the tragic events at Mid Staffordshire and recommendations by Sir Robert Francis, the organisation has two named Freedom to Speak Up Guardians who report independently to the Board on whistleblowing matters raised by staff.

For patients who wish to make a complaint

If there's something you're unhappy with, we'd like to know about it, so that we can try to put matters right. We believe that every complaint is an opportunity for us to better understand and improve the quality of our services.
