Your opportunities
We have 14 main operating theatres at Guy's Hospital and 12 main theatres at St Thomas', covering a wide range of specialties. There are also two day surgery units, one at each hospital. Our nurses are encouraged to rotate through the department and many staff are now generic practitioners in scrub, recovery and anaesthetics.
Our cardiac and vascular theatre suite consists of four traditional theatres and a hybrid theatre. We operate on both adult and paediatric cardiac cases including adults with congenital cardiac disorders. When additional theatres are built there will be a second hybrid theatre added.
There are currently five operating theatres at Evelina London Children's Hospital, though plans are in place to increase this number. Within the recovery unit we are aiming to provide a bespoke paediatric recovery course, which is currently unavailable nationally.
There are opportunities for all paediatric theatre staff to rotate to adult areas if they wish but also to work on the wards of Evelina London whilst either on a course or to broaden their paediatric knowledge and experience.
