Access to Evelina Children's Hospital over Bank Holiday

Friday 3 May 2013

Architect's design of the East Wing

From 6pm tonight, Friday 3 May until 6am, Monday 6 May there will be no vehicle or pedestrian access to the Evelina Children’s Hospital from Lambeth Palace Road.

Vehicles can enter into the St Thomas’ Hospital car park which is also off Lambeth Palace Road.

Staff, patients and their families can walk to the Evelina through St Thomas' Hospital - either through the A&E entrance from Lambeth Palace Road, or the main entrance from Westminster Bridge Road.

Access between the Evelina, St Thomas’ House and South Wing will be maintained at all times.

The reason for limiting access is to allow us to erect a crane, marking the start of the East Wing refurbishment.

The East Wing at St Thomas’ has been a feature of the Westminster skyline since the 1960s. The East Wing, which houses A&E, intensive care and cardiac wards, towers above our Accident and Emergency department and can be seen for miles. But it now needs essential repair and modernisation to create the best possible environment for our patients, our visitors and our staff.

New energy efficient cladding, replacement windows and atriums will improve the patient experience, significantly reduce our carbon footprint and save costs.
