Eileen Sills flu fighter award

Guy’s and St Thomas’ Chief Nurse, Dame Eileen Sills, has been nominated for a national award in recognition of her dedication to promoting staff flu vaccinations.

Eileen is on the shortlist to be NHS Employers’ Flu Fighter Champion 2015. The award celebrates the commitment of individuals who have gone above and beyond to promote flu vaccination.

Eileen says: "It's an honour to be shortlisted for this national award. I think it demonstrates how seriously we take the flu vaccination programme at Guy's and St Thomas'.

“Vaccinating staff against the flu is integral to high quality patient care. It is important for ensuring we have a workforce fit to provide care and also helps prevent the spread of infection among patients."

By encouraging vaccination uptake across the organisation, Eileen played a key role in the success of this winter’s flu programme at Guy’s and St Thomas’, which saw more staff vaccinated than ever before.

Her hands-on approach of running her own flu clinics meant that Eileen personally vaccinated 400 staff.

The winners of the NHS Employers Flu Fighter Awards will be announced on 25 March.
