The Bermondsey Centre at Guy’s Hospital, which houses internationally renowned dermatology, rheumatology, lupus and allergy services, has been officially opened by Neil Coyle, MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark.

A lot of the patients treated in the new centre require input from different clinical specialities. By locating services together, healthcare professionals can collaborate closely, alongside academic and research teams, to improve patients’ care and experience.

Speaking at the official opening on Thursday 4 February, Neil Coyle MP said: “I’m delighted to open the Bermondsey Centre, which will provide world class care for local people in south London as well as patients from further afield.

“I’m so impressed with the efforts the Guy’s and St Thomas’ is making to improve care for patients and make their time in hospital as pleasant as possible”

Dr Adam Fox, Clinical Director of Genetics, Rheumatology, Infection, Dermatology and Allergy (GRIDA), says: “The opening of the Bermondsey Centre is a milestone for us in the work we are doing to improve the way we treat patients.

“A lot of the patients who we see need regular treatment and spend a long time in the hospital. The environment of the Bermondsey Centre makes such a difference for them, and I’m very pleased that we’ve been able to improve their experiences of care.”

Artwork in the Bermondsey Centre complements the surrounding and helps to create a peaceful atmosphere. Old maps of Bermondsey sit alongside pieces that were specially commissioned by Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity.
