CQC emergency department survey
Findings from a survey of more than 45,000 people who used urgent and emergency services provided by 137 NHS trusts in England show positive results for many aspects of care and treatment.
Published on Tuesday 17 October by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the survey reveals the responses of patients who attended A&E departments run directly by an acute hospital trust during September 2016.
The patient experience survey found that Guy’s and St Thomas’ is performing as well as other trusts overall. Areas where we are performing particularly well include:
- Feeling safe in the department
- Privacy when being examined or treated
- Staff explaining test results in a clear way.
Areas for improvement include waiting times, emotional support, and communication when leaving the department.
Dame Eileen Sills, Chief Nurse and Deputy Chief Executive, said: “Our Emergency Department continues to deliver excellent patient care in the face of a sustained increase in demand for our services. This has led to an increase in waiting times which we are determined to address.
“I am grateful to our patients for taking the time to complete the survey and would like to thank all staff for their hard work which is borne out by the findings.”
