While most of us enjoyed our Christmas dinner, midwives at St Thomas’ Hospital worked tirelessly to deliver bundles of joy to proud parents.

Christmas Day saw the arrival of 11 babies at St Thomas’ Hospital – three girls and eight boys – between 3.22am and 9.55pm.

Rebecca Rush welcomed her daughter into the world at 8.29pm weighing 6 lb 9oz. She said: “We weren’t expecting her to arrive this early but the midwives, surgeon and his team were amazing.”

More than 6,600 babies are born at St Thomas’ Hospital each year.

Maxine Spencer, director of midwifery, said: “It always feels extra special when babies are born on Christmas Day. Congratulations to all the new parents and thank you to our wonderful staff who work over the festive season.”
