Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust will be celebrating the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in style with a regal themed menu for patients.

Patients will be treated to a special Royal wedding-inspired lunch and afternoon tea to celebrate the couple’s big day on Saturday 19 May.

The unique menu features a selection of classic dishes that have been given a royal twist, such as “Windsor Soup”, “Sandringham Salmon”, and “Clarence Caramel”.

Later in the day patients will be offered afternoon tea, including lemon and elderflower cupcakes, which is the flavour of the Royal wedding cake.

The cupcakes will be served on plates and napkins decorated with the Union Jack design, and the menus will be printed on card so that patients can keep them as a souvenir of the special day.

More than 1,000 patients are expected to be served the Royal menu at both Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals on Saturday and an equal number of cupcakes are currently being prepared.

Robert Cormack, general manager for catering services at Guy’s and St Thomas’, said: “The Royal wedding is such a special national event, so we wanted to make sure that our patients did not miss out on the celebrations just because they’re in hospital.

“This isn’t the first time we’ve marked a Royal event with celebrations for our patients. In 2011 we laid on a special lunch menu for the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and in 2012 we hosted a number of events across the Trust to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

“We are really passionate about providing first-rate care and Royal events are a great opportunity for us to give patients as positive an experience as possible while they are in hospital.”

In 2016 Prince Harry visited Guy’s and St Thomas’ Burrell Street Sexual Health Centre where he took a rapid HIV test to normalise and de-stigmatise testing. The test was broadcast live on the Royal Family’s Facebook page.
