Emma climbs Kilimanjaro in memory of her dad

Emma Connelly

A customer services liaison officer at St Thomas’ has safely returned to sea level after an eight-day trek up Mount Kilimanjaro and back.

Emma Connelly faced extreme weather conditions and temperatures ranging from 30°C to -15°C to raise money for the hospice that cared for her dad who died of bowel cancer in 2000.

Emma, who arranges transport for patients to and from the hospital, says: "I was overwhelmed with happiness when I got to the top. All that was running through my head was ‘Mum, I did it’ as the tears stung my sunburnt cheeks.

"I couldn't wait to tell my mum that I'd done her, and my dad, proud."

Emma started the trek the day after her 21st birthday last month.
