MRI scanner being lifted by crane

A new neonatal MRI scanner which will help us to provide the best care possible for sick newborn babies has arrived in the maternity unit at St Thomas’.

Babies with problems at birth, such as being born prematurely, now have the latest technology available to quickly diagnose any problems as soon as they are born.

The scanner is one of only a few in the world and will help us to create world-class research facilities.

Getting the scanner into the hospital was a carefully planned operation by Essentia’s project team; it was lifted in by crane through the windows of the maternity unit.
