South East London STP published

Guy’s and St Thomas’ has been a key partner in the development of a five-year plan for health services in South East London, known as the Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP).

Amanda Pritchard, Chief Executive of Guy’s and St Thomas’, is the STP lead for South East London.

The final version of the Plan has now been published – both the full document and a summary are available online.

The proposals outlined in the STP build on the Our Healthier South East London strategy. Some parts of the plan, such as the proposal to create elective orthopaedic surgery centres, will require formal public consultation.

Amanda Pritchard says:“Our priority is making services safer and consistently high quality so people lead longer, healthier and happier lives. To do this we have to get the best value out of every penny of the £4 billion currently spent by the NHS in South East London each year.

“We are committed to working together to make sure services can deliver the best possible care now and for future generations.”

Dr Andrew Parson, Chair of Bromley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), is also Chair of the South East London Clinical Executive Group which brings together clinical leaders from local CCGs and provider trusts including Guy’s and St Thomas’.

He says: “Each of the new models of care in our plan is about improving patient care by working differently. Our work suggests that by more parts of the healthcare system working together at scale, we can make the best use of resources, share expertise and skills and focus on preventative care rather than dealing with illness when it arises.

“Change on this scale won’t happen overnight but we want to create a legacy for the future as the improvements in prevention and care should result in benefits which will materialise beyond the next five years.”
