Local MP, Kate Hoey has officially opened the Akerman Health Centre in Brixton where local people can see their GP and receive community health services all under one roof.

The £12m centre brings together three GP practices and a range of services, some of which would normally require a visit to hospital, such as blood testing and certain minor surgery.

Specialist clinics for patients with long-term conditions such as chronic heart disease and asthma will be available as well as other services including ante-natal and child development clinics, support for older people and help with staying fit and healthy. The centre will also be the base for a team of district nurses who visit patients at home to provide treatment and support.

Angela Dawe, Director of Community Health Services said: “We are delighted to be part of this fantastic new facility and welcome the opportunity to provide local people with the care that they need, closer to where they live.”
