Guy’s and St Thomas’ is the best NHS trust in England for staff engagement, according to the national NHS Staff Survey results published today (Tuesday 7 March).

This is the second year running that Guy’s and St Thomas’ has achieved the top score nationally.

The Trust received a score of 4.03 (on a scale of 1-5) for staff engagement, compared to a national average of 3.80 for combined acute and community trusts.

A total of 89% of staff are happy with the standard of care the Trust provides (national average 69%) and 79% of staff would recommend the Trust as a place to work (national average 59%).

More than 5,100 staff at Guy’s and St Thomas’ completed the Staff Survey in Autumn 2016.

Amanda Pritchard, Chief Executive, says: “I am delighted that we are ranked top in England for staff engagement for the second year running. This is good news for both our staff and our patients, as research shows that engaged staff provide better patient care. It is also testament to the dedication and commitment of our staff in making the Trust a great place to work.”

Ann Macintyre, Director of Workforce and Organisational Development, says: “The results give us a valuable insight into the views of our staff and, importantly, an understanding of where we need to improve. We will closely analyse the results and work with staff to tackle the areas where we need to do better, such as concerns around equal opportunities for career progression and issues of bullying or discrimination. We have already started work to address these important issues."
