Two members of staff from Guy’s and St Thomas’ have been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours list.

Professor Prokar Dasgupta, honorary consultant urological surgeon at the Trust, received an OBE for services to surgery and science. Kendra Schneller, nurse practitioner, was made an MBE for services to homeless and inclusion health nursing.

Professor Dasgupta has been a consultant urologist at Guy's Hospital since 2002, pioneering robotic surgery in urology in the UK, and became the first Professor of robotic surgery and urological innovation at King's College London in 2009.

He leads on surgical simulation within the UK and internationally and was Editor-in-Chief of the British Journal of Urology International (BJUI).

Prof Dasgupta, who is also foundation professor of surgery at King’s Health Partners, said: “This award does not belong to me but to our team, our outstanding national and international collaborators and our patients.”

Kendra Schneller is a nurse practitioner working with the health inclusion team at Guy’s and St Thomas’, joining in 2008. She won the Nursing Standard’s community nursing award for 2011 and has been working with people experiencing homelessness, including clients with addictions, sex workers and refugee and asylum seekers for over 14 years.

Kendra, who is also homeless and inclusion health programme lead at the Queen's Nursing Institute, said: “I am humbled to receive this award and honoured to be able to be a small part of my client’s lives, in supporting them to access healthcare services equitably. I do not do this in silo and value the support and equal contribution of my team colleagues and partner agencies in achieving this.

“This is so important in highlighting inclusion health which is an emerging speciality in healthcare and this award will support my colleagues and I to push the agenda for inclusion health to become a recognised speciality.”
