Consultant sleep and general medicine physician
Dr Rexford Muza is interested in obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) and its associated co-morbidities. It has emerged as an important factor in renal disease and Dr Muza is interested in looking further into its association with urinary albumin excretion-which is a surrogate for endothelial dysfunction, and an important cardiovascular risk predictor. He is interested in evaluating newer treatment approaches being developed for OSA.
His main interest in respiratory medicine has been in infections of the lung - particularly tuberculosis and opportunistic chest infections. He is interested in HIV/Aids in general and HIV and the lung in particular. Dr Muza has also been involved in the evaluation of oxygen delivery systems, comparing the new ambulatory oxygen delivery systems against the traditional systems.
In general internal medicine he has an interest in looking at the immunomodulatory properties of statins.
