Consultant ophthalmologist

Biography

Nigel Davies was appointed as a consultant ophthalmologist at St Thomas’ Hospital in May 2017. Prior to that he worked as a consultant at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for 13 years.

Nigel works in medical retina caring for patients with diabetic eye disease, other retinal vascular diseases such as vein and artery occlusions, degenerative retinal disease including age-related macular degeneration, inherited retinal diseases and other retinal problems. He works closely with our vitreoretinal surgeons and the medical eye unit who care for patients with eye-involving systemic and neurological disease, inflammatory and infectious disease.

Nigel is interested in all things scientific and is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers. He is also studying for a degree in astronomy and cosmology at the University of Central Lancashire.

  • Distinction in surgical sciences, Royal London Hospital, University of London, 1992
  • Training in ophthalmology at the Western Eye Hospital, Moorfields Eye Hospital and University College Hospital
