Michael Robson studied medicine at Oxford (preclinical) and London (clinical) and qualified in 1992. He trained in nephrology at King’s College and Guy’s Hospitals. Following the award of an MRC clinical training fellowship and research into glomerulonephritis, he gained a PhD from Imperial College in 2000. He was awarded a Wellcome Trust Intermediate Fellowship from 2002-2006. He has been a consultant nephrologist at Guy's and St Thomas’ since 2002.
Michael has a clinical interest in systemic lupus erythematosus, anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody vasculitis and glomerulonephritis.
He has established a specialist clinic in the renal unit at Guy’s for patients with lupus nephritis and vasculitis. He also has an interest in vascular access for haemodialysis.
Michael is chief investigator of the NIHR-funded PAVE trial which is testing a new treatment for arteriovenous fistulas in haemodialysis patients, and contributes to several other clinical studies.
He also runs a laboratory based research program in glomerulonephritis and is seeking to understand disease mechanisms and identify new possibilities for therapy.
