Overview

Dental treatment by undergraduate students

Our dental services are part of the King's College London Dental Institute, which trains dentists.

We offer free routine treatments by undergraduate dental students. Treating patients gives dental students the range of experience they need.

Undergraduate students carry out routine treatment supervised by a senior member of staff.

This service is not suitable for children.

If your treatment becomes more complex and is unsuitable for students, you may be asked to get your future treatment at a dental practice rather than at our hospital.

If you have an existing complex medical condition, it may mean you are not suitable for treatment on the open plan undergraduate clinics. You may need to get treatment outside of the hospital.

This service may be suitable if you need:

  • routine fillings
  • simple treatment for gum problems
  • selected crowns and bridges
  • dentures
  • root canal treatment

This service is not suitable if you:

  • need multiple crowns or bridges
  • have or need dental implants
  • need orthodontic treatment, such as braces or aligners
  • need treatment for complex gum problems, such as gum grafting
  • need re-treatment of root fillings
  • need wisdom teeth removed
  • need treatment under sedation
  • are under 18 years old

Treatment options will depend on your dental needs and whether the treatment can be provided by the dental undergraduate service.

We do not provide emergency or urgent dental care. If you are in pain or need urgent help, please call NHS 111.
