Upcoming courses

Clinical experts from our teaching hospitals run courses for general practitioners (and practice staff) who need a comprehensive update on how to manage common conditions or training for their continuing professional development.

  • Managing vascular conditions workshop

    The South East Vascular Network and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust are delighted to invite you to a free teaching event on vascular care.

    • Date: Wednesday 22 January 2020, 7-8.45pm
    • Venue: Education Centre, 75-79 York Road, London, SE1 7NJ
    • Cost: free, a light supper will be provided

    This workshop is for primary care clinicians and will focus on practical aspects of managing vascular conditions.

    Topics and speakers include:

    • vascular referral routes and alternative emergency referrals avoiding A&E
    • claudication causes and exercise programmes – clinical nurse specialist and vascular physio
    • diabetic foot management and prevention – Dr Stephen Thomas, clinical director, London Diabetes Clinical Network
    • critical limb ischemia – Mr S Patel, vascular consultant (lower limb lead).

    CPD points

    This workshop carries two CPD points and a certificate of attendance will be given.

  • Skype lunchtime seminar – adult sleep disorders

    Dr Ivana Rosenzweig, consultant neuropsychiatrist and sleep physician at Guy's and St Thomas' would like to invite you to a one hour interactive Skype seminar where you will learn how to improve the diagnosis, patient referrals and the management of sleep disorders in primary care.

    The talk will cover Rapid Eye Movement (REM) Behaviour Disorder and its link to alpha synucleinopathies (e.g. Parkinson's disorder, Dementia of Lewy Body etc).

    Questions will be taken at the end of the talk.

  • Rheumatology and musculoskeletal workshop

    This free workshop will be hosted by the orthopaedic teamat Guy's and St Thomas' and is for GPs and practice nurses.

    • Date: Tuesday 11 February 2020, 7-9pm
    • Venue: orthopaedic outpatient department, ground floor, Southwark Wing, Guy's Hospital, Great Maze Pond, London SE1 9RT
    • Cost: free, a light supper will be provided

    • early inflammatory arthritis – how to diagnose and when to refer (Dr Bina Menon, consultant rheumatologist)
    • monitoring of disease modifying drugs (Dr Sujith Subesinghe, consultant rheumatologist)
    • rheumatology cases in primary care (Dr Rachel Byng-Maddick, consultant rheumatologist)
    • fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome – debunking some myths (Tess Golding, advanced physiotherapy practitioner)
