Location
The osteoporosis unit was established by Professor Ignac Fogelman in 1988. It was the first osteoporosis screening service in the UK and has a strong history of clinical work and research. The unit is at Guy's Hospital.
Osteoporosis screening measures the density of your bones (which is related to bone strength) by performing bone density scans. This is a straightforward procedure where you are required to lie on a scanning bed. We use very small amounts of x-rays and usually scan your lower spine and one hip. From this, we will be able to assess whether you have or are likely to develop osteoporosis.
