Coronavirus: nuclear medicine update
In response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, please read our advice and information before attending the service.
The department offers a range of scans and treatments and is open to patients between 9am and 5pm. We offer a range of appointment times but as some procedures take several hours, we may only be able to offer appointments for some procedures at specific times.
General diagnostic imaging
Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.
Most procedures can be performed at Guy's Hospital or St Thomas'.
Some procedures may take less than hour whereas others are require to return to the department over several days.
Cardiac stress testing
This is a two part examination; stress and rest. The first part of the test (stress) is performed at Guy’s Hospital on Wednesday and at St Thomas’ Hospital on Tuesdays. The second part (rest) will be performed at the same hospital and within two weeks after the stress test.
We have an award winning custom designed paediatric imaging suite at St Thomas’ Hospital. This is a child friendly environment and we have staff that are expert in dealing with younger patients, including play specialists, to ensure that your child’s visit runs as smoothly as possible.
The specialised equipment required for these types of procedures is located at both hospitals and appointments are available in the usual working hours.
Adult osteoporosis screening is performed at Guy’s Hospital and children are seen at St Thomas’ Hospital.
Thyroid clinic and thyroid oncology clinic
The thyroid clinic (non-cancer thyroid conditions) and thyroid oncology clinic (thyroid cancer) includes treatments with radioactive iodine located at Guy’s Hospital. We also perform radioactive iodine treatment run by Professor Valerie Lewington, Dr Fahim Ul-Hassan and Dr Amy Eccles.

The thyroid oncology clinic is held once a month on a Wednesday afternoon, between 2pm and 4pm at the address above. Your appointment time will be indicated on your appointment letter.
