Speech and language therapy

Our speech and language services provides treatment, support and care for adults with swallowing, communication or voice disorders.

Inpatient service

We provide services for patients on all of the acute inpatient wards.

We have specialists in:

  • critical care
  • head and neck cancer
  • cancer
  • stroke
  • acute general medicine and surgery
  • ageing and health
  • respiratory medicine

We also do procedures including instrumental assessments of swallowing, fibreoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) and videofluoroscopy.

Outpatient service

We have an outpatient service at Guy's Hospital for patients with voice disorders. 

We see head and neck cancer patients at Guy's Hospital and in the community. 

We see patients who have developed speech and swallowing disorders at Guy's Hospital. We can refer them to their local community team if they need ongoing care.

Our videofluoroscopy service is also available for outpatients.

Research and clinical trials

Research is vital to improving the care that you receive when you're unwell. You can help improve healthcare by taking part in research studies at our Trust. During your appointment, ask your healthcare professional about research. They'll be happy to tell you about research studies you could be eligible to join.
