The Welcome Village – levels W and W1
The Welcome Village is the first place you will visit when you come to the Cancer Centre. This is where you will check-in and wait for your appointment. There are also a number of services available here.
The Welcome Village is the first place you will arrive in the Guy's Cancer Centre.
When you arrive, please use the electronic self check-in screens so we know that you have arrived.
Please bring your appointment card or letter with you on the day of your visit. Your letter will tell you which village you will be visiting. The letter or card may include a bar code which you can scan at the check-in screen. Alternatively, you can check-in using your date of birth and postcode.
At the self check-in, you’ll be able to confirm your address, GP address and mobile telephone number, and tell us of any changes that we need to make.
If you have forgotten your letter, you can still use the check-in kiosks by entering your gender, date of birth and postcode.
Staff and volunteers will help you if you have any problems.

If your appointment letter has a barcode, scan the barcode below the screen, or check in using your postcode and your date of birth. The check-in system will display your name on large screens in the waiting areas.
Waiting spaces and facilities are limited in the other villages so please stay in the Welcome Village until you are called for your appointment.
When it is time for your appointment, the screens around the waiting area will show your name. As soon as your name appears, please make your way to the village or blood test area that is indicated on the screen.

Services in the Welcome Village
Blood tests (phlebotomy)
Blood tests will take place in the Welcome Village of the Cancer Centre. When you have checked in, the screen will tell you if you need to have a blood test before your appointment, and you will be directed to the blood test area.
Your name will appear on the screens in the Welcome Village when it is your turn to see the phlebotomist.
Please return to the waiting area in the Welcome Village after your blood test.
Your name will appear on the screens when it is time for your next appointment, and this will tell you which village to go to.

Dimbleby Cancer Care
Guy's and St Thomas' works with Dimbleby Cancer Care, which provides important information and support services for our patients and their relatives and friends.
You are welcome to drop in at any time.
The information area, in the base level of the Welcome Village, is staffed by specialist nurses who provide advice, information and support. A range of leaflets, DVDs and CDs are available to take home.
You can also arrange appointments for the following services free of charge:
- psychological support for patients, carers and family
- complementary therapies such as aromatherapy, reflexology, reiki and relaxation and stress management sessions
- welfare advice provided by Citizens Advice
- nutritional advice sessions
- support groups
- 'Look good feel better' workshops.

The Fitting Room offers a modern, welcoming environment in which to discuss, try on and be fitted for wigs, hairpieces, headwear and mastectomy products, including prostheses, lingerie and swimwear.
The service is unique to the Cancer Centre but is available for everyone to use, no matter where you are receiving care. There is no need to make an appointment, just drop in at a time that suits you.
The Fitting Room will also provide wig care products, skincare products, make-up advice and a variety of services designed to support you.
The Living Room provides a quiet space where you can sit, read or reflect.
As well as access to a courtyard garden, there is a modern art installation where headphones enable you to listen to sounds from across the world.
Outpatient appointments for therapies
We have a dedicated team providing therapy, supportive care and rehabilitation services including:
- occupational therapy
- speech and language therapy.
If you have an appointment with this team you will be asked to go upstairs to W1.
Individual and group sessions are provided as well as physical activity sessions in the rehabilitation gym.
The Gordon Survivorship Centre
More people than ever are living with, and beyond, a cancer diagnosis. However, the psychological and physical impact that cancer and the treatment may have on your life does not suddenly stop when the treatment is over.
It is important for us to identify your individual needs after your treatment has finished and to support you to live as healthily as possible.
The Gordon Survivorship Centre offers information, advice and support, from the point of diagnosis through your treatment and beyond. We work in partnership with Dimbleby Cancer Care, Breast Cancer Care, Macmillan Cancer Support, our doctors, specialist nurses and allied health professionals. We will be able to connect you to programmes and events within the Cancer Centre and also within your local community.
We also run events, seminars and lectures, providing up-to-date and evidence based information.
Our service will be tailored to your individual needs. We can help you with the physical, mental, emotional and social difficulties your diagnosis and treatment may have on you.
We will also help to provide 'end of treatment' plans and work closely with community services, ensuring a more seamless transition from care in the cancer centre to services closer to home.
